CYNARA'S LITTER ASire: Best in Field Dual Champion Tandiwe's Intrigue'N Mission, MC, FCh, RN, CGC, HIC TDI "Apollo" (see more pix)Dam: Champion Jendaya's Mint Julep of Cynara, RE, CGC, HIC "Katie"
Katie was bred for the first time in late November 2007 to Apollo. The puppies started arriving in the early evening of January 23, 2008. Katie insisted on whelping the puppies while standing up and had 8 puppies - 4 girls, 3 boys and one stillborn. Each of the puppies was born with the trademark ridge on their back. The 3 males had extra crowns on their ridge which disqualified them from being show dogs but made them perfect for people wanting a pet or performance hound. None of the puppies had kinked tails, dermoids, umbilical hernias, bad bites or excessive white markings. The pups had front dew claws and 3 had dew claws on both rear paws. The four girls (Astra, Scuba, Stella & Trouble) have long striking ridges and ultimately were determined to be show quality. Astra and Trouble started showing in conformation at 6 months old while Scuba and Stella waited longer to hit the ring. Stella earned her AKC conformation championship on 5/2/2009 becoming Cynara's first home bred champion finishing with 3 majors and 18 points. It was an extra special bonus that Stella did her best in large shows against more competition. She won three 4-points majors on her journey to capture 15 points. Astra made her own place in Cynara history by becoming our first AKC Lure Coursing Field Champion (FC) on 6/6/09. Astra is the first Oklahoma born Ridgeback to earn an FC. As of 2/8/10 Astra has 10 points, Scuba has 2 points, Trouble and Stella are both AKC champions. The camera loves them and some of their win shots look stunning. We put collars on the puppies to make it easy to tell them apart. Below are the collar colors listed in the order the pups were born along with their registered names and current titles. Apollo, the sire is a strong, hard muscled male who loves to lure course but can tone down the high energy to glide around the show ring in perfect form. He is also a very loyal dog who is happiest when close to his family. One of the reasons Apollo was selected to be the sire was his success helping smaller bitches produce standard sized pups with strong bones and good fronts. Several of the pups are going to have great fronts and slightly more bone and substance than Katie so from that perspective, the breeding was a success. Look at these beautiful pictures of Apollo, Katie and many of their ancestors. For those of you familiar with or interested in Ridgeback genealogy I have created a pedigree for the puppies. |
