CYNARA LITTERS

Cynara purchased our first purebred registered Ridgeback in 2001.  7 years later our first litter (Litter A) was born in 2008.  Litter B came along in 2009, Litter C popped out in Sept. 2010 and our singleton puppy (Litter D) was born in Dec. 2011.  As you can see, we don't breed very often which allows us to find the best owners.  Cynara maintains a waiting list for people with patience who are willing to wait for one of our stellar puppies.  Puppy owners stay in close contact and become friends.  They frequently send us photos, updates and brags on their dog's accomplishments. We've only had one owner who decided after 9 months to return a pup because she was too energetic, strong and outgoing for their lifestyle.  Ridgebacks aren't the perfect dog for everyone so I urge people who've never owned a Ridgeback to do lots of  research on the breed including visiting a couple of breeders  to get an idea of what to expect.

Cynara strives to breed healthy dogs who are also smart, have good temperaments and look like a fine piece of art.  Genetics don't always cooperate and sometimes despite our best efforts we have puppies bigger than standard, with extra crowns, etc.   Breeding is not a science so this happens to all breeders.  Ethical breeders spend thousands of dollars testing their dogs before breeding them to lower the odds of having puppies with health problems.  When one of our dogs is born with multiple crowns, kinked tail, overbite or fails a health test the dog is placed in a loving home as a pet and then spayed/neutered at the proper age but they are never bred.  This is one of the big differences between a high quality breeder versus a puppy mill or back-yard breeder.  Sires and dams pass on their temperaments to their puppies which is one of the reasons snappy, mean or freaky dogs can't be tolerated in a breeding line so we only breed dogs who are stable and can get along with other dogs and people.
